How to have a style glow up

So you're starting to get bored with your style and you want to change things up but you have no idea where to start. Here are my tips on how to easily upgrade your style.

The power of basics

If you don't know what basics are they are the building blocks of a great outfit. Plain colored tees, plain denim jeans, sold color skirts, biker shorts or a plain collared tops. These items help build your outfit with your statement piece. A statement piece is the part of the outfit that you want to be focused on the most.

But basics can be worn by themselves too. Streetwear does this a lot with neutral colors and Brandy Melville is basically all basics. Some shops even have a section just for basics. I can not begin to emphasize the importance of basics because they can really bring your style up so easily. H&M, Pacsun, and Amazon have great basic sections!

Things to look for:

Plain short and long sleeve tops

Solid colored sweatshirts and hoodies

Turtlenecks

Blue denim pants, shorts, and skirt

Solid color skirt

Striped shirts

Solid color biker shorts

Plain collared top

Solid colored shoes

The curse of plain blue jeans

Now we all love a good pair of blue jeans. But sometimes our blue jeans can be repetitive. Now I am not saying jeans are bad. But wearing them every single day might be a little boring. If you feel like your constantly wearing blue jeans all the time try this:

Try wearing more skirts but if your not to much of a skirt person try skorts! (they are a life saver) Plaid skirts are cute and easy to style and midi stain skirts are super chic. Adding matching colored tights underneath skirts is also a fun way to style them.

But if you want to stick with pants try different colored jeans. Black, pink, or white or try more statement jeans like patchwork, bell bottoms or embroidery. This will definitely bring your style up a lot! If you're tired of jeans try corduroy pants or more solid colored or patterned dress pants. Adding these items with a solid color belt looks amazing.

Replacing these with your plain blue jeans once in awhile will definitely give your style a glow up. It will also helps you explore more things you like in fashion and is a simple way to take more style risks.

Statement pieces

As I said before statement pieces are the item or items you want to be focused on the most. You can have more than one statement piece or just wear all statements if your feeling extra.

Examples of statement pieces are balloon sleeved tops, platform shoes (Demonias shoes are a good examples), faux fur jacket or top, animal print dress, or a bright colored sweater vest.

There is so many examples of statement pieces it honestly depends on what you like and what your aesthetic is, Our aesthetic articles are filled with statement pieces if you don't know what your aesthetics statement pieces are.

So if you feel your style is to basic try adding more statement pieces to your looks. I suggest if you are struggling with to many basic outfits try adding the biggest statement piece that you like. This can help you take more risks but also will make your outfit from a 5 to a 10. Make sure you pick out something you really like and want to show off. Your statement piece should help not only bring out your outfit but your confidence too.

The three color rule

Now I don't know if I believe this rule to much but it has been around in fashion for decades so I thought it would be interesting to bring up.

The three color rule is basically any outfit you wear must only have three main colors or two main colors and one pattern. If it's a monochromatic outfit do only three shades of that color.

I was taught this rule when I was younger and it did help me a bit when I first starting styling outfits. So this rule can be great for beginners I think. Especially if you are struggling with putting together an outfit.

But if you have an aesthetic that has way more than one color (kidcore, clowncore, or rainbowcore for example) this rule won't really work for you. Those aesthetics are all about color. So add as much as you'd like.

But the most important part of your style glow up is that your new style makes you happy and brings you confidence. That's what fashion is all about.

I hope this helps
