Fashion in film: Jawbreaker

Jawbreaker is a teen comedy released 1999. The movie follows a group of popular high school girls who accidentally kill their friend Liz by jagging her with a Jawbreaker. Courtney the leader of the group and Julie and Marcie try to hide that they killed Liz. But then Fern finds out they giver her a makeover and make her popular so she can be quiet. The movie was costumed designed by Vikki Barrett. The costume designers went out to local LA shift shops to find the costumes for the movie. The girls outfits are very monochromatic and had very candy like colors. They followed 90s trends but with a vintage touch. Heres how you can get these looks:

This scene is so iconic and the outfits give off good girl gone bad vibes. I love Courtney's monochromatic red look making her stand out from the rest. Julie's leather skirt and Marcie's green halter also are favorites of mine.

Courtney's outfit:

Red body con midi dress, Burgundy cardigan, red heels, red clutch:

Marcie's outfit:

Green halter top, Plain pencil skirt, green bag, green heels:

Julie's outf:

plaid tank, blue leather skirt, blue heels, green bag:

Fern's premakeover outfit is so cute. I love the cozy over size green cardigan she has on.

Fern's outfit:

white floral shirt, oversized green cardigan, black skirt:

Courtney is again rocking the full monochromatic look. She also makes me want to whip out a sheer neck scarf for my next outfit. Marcie is wearing a very tropical colored ensemble. Fern has become Vylette with a new pink and girly look.

Courtney's outfit:

cropped purple cardigan, purple pants, sheer purple neck scarf, purple heels, purple clutch:

Marcie's outfit:

yellow cardigan, orange and pink floral dress, peach clutch:

Fern's outfit:

pink floral dress, pink pearl necklace, pink bag:

I love this simple look Julie is wearing. The light pink cami top with the dark jeans are such a cute pairing.

Julie's outfit:

pink top, dark blue jeans:

Probably my favorite look while Fern is Vylette. Showing that pink is her signature color Fern is wearing a fancy pink tank with those iconic 90s sunglasses.

Fern's outfit:

pink tank, pink sunglasses, pink headband:

Courtney shows off her bad girl style with this dark blue snake skin top with matching blue eyeshadow. Marcie is also rocking her bright orange bottoms with her signature "foxy" necklace.

Courtney's outfit:

Marcie's outfit:

beige button up shirt, orange skirt, foxy necklace:

I love this look its very bad girl chic. But I don't know how anyone would manage to wear this to school in real life.

Fern's outfit:

pink sleeveless top, pink satin top, rhinestone necklace:

Courtney rocks purple again with this classic floral 90s dress.

Courtney's outfit:

purple floral body con dress:

Julie gives me lots of 60s vibes in this look. But she is the only one that can work those oval sunglasses.

Julie's outfit:

white oval sunglasses, blue cardigan:

I have not seen capri pants in awhile but looking at Courtney rocking them they might just need to make a comeback. I am also in love with Marcies foxy charm halter top.

Courtney's outfit:

black capri pants, purple off the shoulder top, purple choker:

Marcie's outfit:

orange halter top, orange plaid skirt, orange bangle bracelet

After Julie leaves the group she doesn't dress as preppy as she used to but this is still such a cute 90s denim look that I could not leave out.

Julie's outfit:

jean jacket, blue tee, jean skirt, shoulder bag:

Courtney proves that even if you are being questioned by police you can still look cute.

Courtney's outfit:

green shirt, leopard headband:

Courtney and Ferns fight scene is such an iconic scene. I love Fern's full bad girl mode here the Moto jacket and the matching pants is what makes the look for me.

Courtney's outfit:

blue sleeveless sweater, red skirt, red tights:

Fern's outfit:

hot pink pants, hot pink jacket, pink shirt, blue choker:

These opening looks are so underrated but I they are probably my favorite outfits. Courtney rocks her all green look but still questioning how someone can wear that to school. Marcie also rocks the monochromatic blue look. Julies outfit is so cute I love the cropped purple cardigan. Liz has the very good girl look and I love her sweet pink dress.
